Sometimes our health behaviours affect others, for example harmful drinking is sometimes linked to domestic and/or sexual violence or child protection issues. If you need information about services that can provide help in these situations please contact the organisations found below.
Domestic abuse and sexual violence
- Women’s Aid - 0808 2000 247. Freephone 24 hr National Domestic Violence Helpline run in partnership between Women’s Aid & Refuge.
- Cambridge Rape Crisis - offers support to women and girls who have experienced rape, childhood sexual abuse or any other form of sexual violence.
- Choices Counselling - offer a confidential counselling service in Cambridge (UK) and surrounding areas for women and men whose lives are affected by childhood sexual abuse.
- Men's Advice Line - confidential helpline for men experiencing domestic violence from a partner or ex-partner (or from other family members).
Bullying, hate crime and other support
- Cambridge Ethnic Community Forum (CECF) -an umbrella organisation for Cambridge and district that provides racial equality services to individuals and groups. CECF provides a cultural diversity service that helps promote an understanding between people from different ethnic groups and help them be a natural part of Cambridge life. They give special social, cultural, moral and practical support to groups and develop particular projects where needed. One of their key services is the Cambridgeshire Human Rights and Equality Support Service (CHESS).
- Cambridgeshire Alliance for Independent Living - an organisation run by people with disabilities for people with disabilities, their families and their carers.
- Encompass Network for LGBT people - promotes a better quality of life for LGBTQ people in Cambridgeshire and surrounding areas by enabling networking and capacity building for the LGBTQ voluntary and community sector.
- Centre 33 - exists to help every young person in Cambridgeshire fulfil their potential. They support and empower young people up to the age of 25 to overcome their problems through a range of free and confidential services. No matter how big or how small a problem you have, they’re here to help. The Centre 33 team are used to talking to young people about all sorts of issues, including housing, sexual health, family problems, bullying.
- The Kite Trust (previously SexYOUality) - works to support all young Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Trans individuals through often difficult years. They offer a number of services to support and empower you to get everything you want out of life. They also offer support to friends, family, schools and other professionals.
